Bus Service CW5 is operated by Handal Indah, a bus operator based in Malaysia also known as Causeway Link. The route includes a long express sector between Netwton and Land.

The route, which crosses the border, provides links from Newton to Johor via Land, serving the high-demand connection between Checkpoint and City, complementing the numerous bus services operating between Land and Queen Street, including Bus Services 170 and CW2, as well as the Singapore-Johore Express.

Bus services with the prefix ‘CW’, including this bus service, do not call at any bus stops en-route in Singapore other than the designated boarding bus stop, which is in Newton for Bus Service CW5. In the occurrence of a traffic congestion along the Causeway, expect longer journeys and waits.

In addition, en-route bus stops in Johor are also skipped. However, in spite of the quick connection, most commuters prefer to board the bus services at Queen Street during non-peak periods, resulting in low demand for this bus service. During the peak periods, high demand is received.

Passengers headed for Larkin at Johor may board Bus Service CWL after clearing the customs.

The designated boarding point at Newton Circus is the bus stop in the Newton Food Centre Car Park along Clemenceau Avenue North. At Johor, passengers headed for Singapore should board at Bus Bays 22, 23, or 24 at Platform B, while passengers headed for Larkin should approach an employee at Platform B, and he or she will direct you to the next departing CWL bus. At Land, passengers headed for Singapore should wait at the CW5 queue at the Public Bus Berths, while passengers headed for Johor should wait at the Causeway Link bus queue at the Public Bus Berths.

At each checkpoint in Singapore and Johor respectively near the border, passengers are required to alight from the bus to clear the customs. They may re-board any busses operated by Causeway Link — Bus Service CW1, CW2, or CW5 — by presenting their ticket to the bus captain. Manjalink card users are required to tap in when re-boarding as well.
